Description
This is a Vintage Inkle Loom. The loom is an estate piece. It was among items a couple was selling from the estate of one of their parents. The information we received was that the loom is circa 1980.
Before purchasing this loom, I had no previous familiarity with inkle looms. I found that there are some excellent, very detailed videos on youTube illustrating the use of an inkle loom targeted for a range of weavers from beginners to experts. I watched a 43 minute video by a very knowledgeable weaver that was targeted at beginners, and she also showed examples of her more advanced work featuring beautiful colors and patterns to produce pieces that can then be made into keychains, belts, shoulder straps for bags, and handbags. She has filmed a series of videos from the beginner video I watched to more advanced.
The video featured two inkle looms, one a commercially produced loom with a makers pyrography logo, and also a hand made loom.
The loom offered here has no maker's mark, and appears to be made from mixed hardwoods, with a pine base, so I assume this loom is a handmade one. As found no shuttles were offered with the loom, but appropriate shuttles can be found online. The loom I saw demonstrated had a screw down knob used to adjust tension. This loom does not have such a knob and I do not know what additional parts you might have to improvise in order to weave using this loom.
The loom is very nicely made, assembled with screws and glue. The overall maximum dimensions are about 26 3/4" x 10" x 8 1/2".
Condition
The loom is in excellent condition with the exception of a few minor scuffs and scrapes on the wood.
It is offered as found / as seen / as described with respect any shuttles or other parts you may need to acquire or improvise to use the loom.
