Meteorite/Ataxite, China, 1lb/14 oz

Description

Here is a good example of an Ataxite(Iron Meteorite, but with a higher Nickel content, usually do not show Widmanstatten patterning, upon etching) from China, 864 grams, or 1 lb/14 oz. This piece is probably from the famous "Chinga" meteorite, which fell around 20.000 years ago in China/Russia. This piece was part of a larger collection from a lifelong mineral collector, which included many Meteorites. Unfortubnately, the exact locality has not been included on the label I inherited. What I can tell is that this piece shows really good "thumbprint" melting features, and is a prime example of this type of Meteorite.
